The picnic was such a success that the group staged similar gatherings around the city in the coming years. It took the form of a small picnic and welcomed participants to sit in City Park and enjoy a meal together. The history of the event dates back to 1971, when the Gay Liberation Front of New Orleans staged a gay in celebration. New Orleans Gay Pride is one of the largest gatherings of LGBTQ people in the United States.
